Functioning as a CNA can be mentally fulfilling for those who value making a distinction in the lives of others and enjoy developing individual relationships with their individuals (PCT classes). "Many CNAs got the work because they had an interest in going to the bedside, and the primary reinforcer for the nursing assistant is the connection they have with the person," claims Genevieve Gipson, RN, MEd, RNC, and director of the National Network of Job Nursing Assistants and Occupation Nurse Assistants Programs Inc

The field is open to any individual that fulfills the certifications established by their state. However, for lots of licensed nursing aides, the role is even more than a task. "Many CNA stories that I hear have the common link that they like helping people and were compelled to find out more after having an experience with a loved one that needed personal care support," says Brooke Phulesar, community liaison for Going to Angels, Eastern Shore, in Easton, Maryland, and vice president of the Mid-Shore Nursing Assistant Advisory Council.
